Finland has 3.3 million saunas for a population of 5.5 million. That's one sauna for every 1.6 people. There are more saunas than cars.
The Finnish Parliament has one. So does at least one Burger King in Helsinki. Most apartment buildings have a shared sauna. Many lakeside homes have a private one. Business deals, political negotiations, and family arguments all happen in the sauna.
The word "sauna" is one of the few Finnish words that's been adopted into nearly every language on Earth. In Finland, it's not a luxury — it's infrastructure. When Finnish soldiers went to war, they built saunas before anything else. Even UN peacekeeping troops from Finland have been known to bring portable saunas on deployment.
Finland is also the world's #1 country for coffee consumption (12kg per person/year) and has been ranked the happiest country on Earth for six consecutive years by the World Happiness Report.
Coincidence? Finns would say no. The sauna fixes everything.
